What Is Regenerative Endodontic Therapy?
Regenerative endodontic therapy is an innovative procedure designed to restore the health of a damaged or infected tooth by regenerating the pulp tissue rather than removing it. Unlike traditional root canals, this procedure encourages your body's natural healing process to regenerate healthy pulp tissue, preserving the tooth and preventing the need for more invasive treatments. We practice regenerative endodontics at Purchase Endodontics to help Paducah, KY patients address dental decay while avoiding more invasive treatments. Dr. Scott D. Seitzinger and Dr. Daniela K. Shields specialize in regenerative dental care, offering you a more natural approach to restoring your tooth's health with minimal discomfort. If you're struggling with tooth pain or decay, contact Purchase Endodontics to learn if regenerative endodontics can help you safeguard your smile.
How Do You Perform Regenerative Endodontic Procedures?
Dr. Seitzinger or Dr. Shields will start your regenerative endodontic procedure by cleaning the infected pulp from your tooth and carefully removing the damaged tissue while preserving any healthy pulp. After cleaning the area, they will introduce growth factors or stem cells into the pulp chamber using a small syringe. These biological materials stimulate your body's natural healing process, promoting the regeneration of healthy pulp tissue. Once the pulp has regenerated, the tooth is sealed to prevent reinfection, and the healing process continues naturally. This procedure helps preserve your tooth, reduce the need for more invasive treatments like extractions, and restore your tooth's health with minimal discomfort.
What To Expect After Regenerative Endodontics
After your regenerative endodontic procedure, you can expect some mild sensitivity or discomfort, which is a normal part of the healing process. Dr. Seitzinger or Dr. Shields will provide detailed aftercare instructions to help you manage any discomfort and ensure a smooth recovery. It's important to follow these guidelines, which may include avoiding hard or crunchy foods for a few days and maintaining good oral hygiene to keep the area clean. Over the following weeks and months, the regenerated pulp tissue will continue to strengthen the tooth from the inside out. Regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your healing and ensure long-term success.

Purchase Endodontics Reviews
Had my first root canal here and it was SO easy! Genuinely it was the quickest, easiest, and most painless dental procedure I've ever had done. The Dr and staff were so kind and informative, answering every question or concern I brought up and the entire experience honestly felt like just a relaxed hang out in the exam room lol 😅
This Dr. knows his stuff! Easy communication with the office and the whole staff was friendly!
Couldn't ask for a better experience - Just had a root canal and the experience was a breeze. First time to this office. I was taken back as soon as I finished filling out the paperwork. I had an X-ray taken and Dr. Shields came in immediately. She looked at the X-ray and explained everything she saw in great detail. Getting me numb is usually a process due to prior jaw surgery but Dr. Shields got me numb on the first try. Everything was a breeze after that. Dr. Shields put me completely at ease from the get go. I have had several root canals in the past in Dallas and Detroit. I would say this was the best endodontic experience I have ever had.
I really wanted to take the time to express my feelings of my visit. I am fearful of dental work in general and without even expressing that, the Dr and staff were so kind, I didn’t feel a single thing and I walked away feeling great. If you are someone who is afraid like me, this is your office. Not only did I not feel any pain, they explained the entire process to me which gave me a lot of confidence.
Both dentists here are amazing! Took my 14 year old son this morning for a root canal & he was so afraid it'd be painful but the dentist assured him it wouldn't be & it wasn't.She spoke with him & told him exactly what she was doing as she did it & her confidence, kindness, efficiency was great! He didn't feel any pain & we we're in & out in 45 minutes including the paperwork for being a new patient.I'd give 10 stars if I could for making this a great experience to the dentist.Thank you all at this office!

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the results of regenerative endodontics permanent?
While regenerative endodontics aims to restore the tooth’s natural function and health, outcomes depend on various factors including the extent of damage and patient care after treatment. Our professional team works closely with patients to optimize long-term success and tooth preservation.
What kind of aftercare is needed following regenerative endodontics?
Good oral hygiene and routine dental visits are important to support healing. Our team provides personalized care instructions to help you maintain the health of your treated tooth.
Will I need additional dental work after regenerative endodontics?
Sometimes, restorative treatments like crowns or fillings may be recommended to protect the tooth after regenerative therapy. Our team will guide you through any necessary follow-up care.
How long does regenerative endodontics take during the appointment?
The procedure typically takes one to two visits, depending on the condition of the tooth and how it responds to treatment. During the appointment, the canal is disinfected, and a biologic material is placed to encourage tissue regeneration. Follow-up visits allow our team to monitor healing and ensure the success of your regenerative root canal therapy.
Are there any special preparations needed before regenerative endodontics?
Before your appointment, you may be advised to avoid eating for a few hours if sedation is planned, and to follow any instructions provided by our team. It is also important to share your full medical and dental history so the procedure can be tailored to your needs. Preparing properly can help ensure a smoother regenerative endodontic procedure and optimal healing.
Is regenerative endodontic treatment painful?
During regenerative endodontic treatment, local anesthesia is used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Most patients report minimal discomfort, similar to what is experienced during a standard root canal procedure.
